Driving Instructions

To U-PARC from Pittsburgh International Airport (approximately 32 miles)

Upon exiting Pittsburgh International Airport, follow the signs to Pittsburgh, Route 60 South. Follow Route 60 to 22/30 East, DO NOT take exit for Route 60 South, but stay on highway which becomes 22/30 East. Follow 22/30 East to I-279 North. You should be in the left lane after you pass the Greentree exit (approximately 13 miles from the airport) and travel down a steep grade into the tunnel. After you pass through the tunnel move to the far left lane as you are crossing the first bridge and follow signs to I-279 North. On the second bridge, move to the far right lane and continue to follow I-279 North to the right for about a 1/2 mile. Then exit from I-279 to the right and follow 28 North to Etna. Continue to follow 28 North past Etna eight miles to the Harmarville Exit. Exit to the right, then bear to the left on the exit ramp and cross Route 910 through the intersection onto Gulf Lab Road. You will see the large sign for the University of Pittsburgh Applied Research Center. Continue up the hill on Gulf Lab Road to the parking area designated for Visitor’s, Parking Lot D. Enter the guard house from the parking lot to sign- n.

To U-PARC from The Pennsylvania Turnpike

Exit the Turnpike at the Allegheny Valley Exit 5 and bear right onto Freeport Road towards Pittsburgh. Right before you reach the third traffic light, bear to the right onto Route 910. After the first traffic light, turn right at the first road, Gulf Lab Road. You will see the large billboard sign for the University of Pittsburgh Applied Research Center (U-PARC). Continue up the hill on Gulf Lab Road to the parking area designated for Visitor’s, Parking Lot D. Enter the guard house from the parking lot to sign in

To Pittsburgh International Airport from U-PARC

Follow 28 South to Pittsburgh approximately 12 miles. Take exit ramp on right near Heinz plant and follow signs to I-279 South. (Heinz plant is on the left approximately 12 miles south from Harmarville -- be careful, this is an easy exit to miss.) Continue to follow signsI-279 South. When you get on the first bridge crossing the Allegheny River, move into far right lane and continue following I-279 South. When you get onto second bridge crossing the Monongahela River, move into far left lane and continue following I-279 South through tunnel. Continue following I-279 South to 22/30 East to 60 North. Follow signs to Pittsburgh International Airport, do not exit on Business 60.
